  [S2926] The Senior, Vera Alsop; Readers Submission; July 2001. Vera Alsop of Higgins, ACT, has sent a photograph of her grandparent's family. She writes: ’All but the eldest were born in the same house in Abbotsford, Vic, “My mother. Emily, is on the right in the back row. The little girl in front of her is Bertha, known as Bird. She was the last surviving member. reaching 89 at her death in 1992. The photo was taken on September 6, 1911. the wedding day of Agnes ( Top row, second from left). Grandmother died two years after this, aged 52. Granddad in 1928. They had four girls, three boys, three more girls then topped it off with the twins Ben and Ethel. They were a very close, happy family and we cousins still keep in touch... but our numbers are falling also! I remember my mother saying how the girls took a long time talking their mother into getting a gas stove... Too dangerous. Alas, it was delivered the day after her sudden death. Being not a great many years younger than the last four girls, I was almost like one of their peers. I still miss them all and the happy gatherings we had with our families and the great singalongs. Coincidentally, the day I am writing this is the 113th anniversary of my mother's birth., Thank you for causing me to bring to mind those times long gone. I remember all the family except Grandma and Ada (centre top row) who tragically died at 24 years from tuberculosis. I have letters she wrote to my mother in 1913 from the sanatorium.
