Hello I have got my great grandmothers Bible and I’m unsure why I thought her name was Cussiah, this needs to be updated, but it had Rosemary Mary Welsh ( née Allsopp) born 27th April 1862 Sofala NSW died 6th December 1946 Belmore NSW

This is the death certificate for my grandma Iris Rose fabb ( welsh) it has her mothers name as Mary Rose Alsop, but in her bible it has her name as Rosena Mary Welsh (nee Allsopp) DOB 27th April 1862 Sofala and her death written in probably by my grand mother as 6th December 1946. Her DOB is a different date than the birth certificate for Cussiah Jane, but same death date. I find it interesting that I have my great grandmothers bible staying her parents with matching birthdates to Jane Adelaide Keeting and John Thomas Allsopp. Do you think there’s been a mix up with a person called Cussiah, or why would there be a name change? Maybe wanted to change to Rosena Mary?
There is refencevto the name Pascoe in her bible ( John Grenfell Pascoe )
But it’s a mystery. Not sure if you can make sense of it.

Hi Dennis, I’m in Dunedin New Zealand my husband Steve is also Aussie. We have 3 children and 1 grandchild here too . I just visited Sydney for a week and that’s when I got hold of her Bible reading book that was handed down to my Father ( he passed 2000) and my mum 90, has Alzheimers and is in a Dementia home at St Ives.
We are a very small family as my dad, who descended from Rosena’s daughter Irsis, was an only child from her 2nd marriage.
I have 3 cousins (mums side) , 1 brother and my mum, no other living older relatives my immediate family, but many nieces and nephews from my husbands big family
We all wish we had more info of family history via dad before he passed. I do know my grandma Iris had a little tattoo on her calf, which we all found quite bizarre. When her husband divorced her ( story goes he wanted a divorce, but it’s printed in Sydney morning helard 1927? she had an affair) the 2 sons stayed with their dad (Abbott) and then she remarried Arthur Fabb- my grandad. Sadly one of her 1st sons rode over to visit Nan and my dad ( was 9) and he was killed by a collision with a car.
You are the only other person I have been in contact that’s from that side of the family.
I may do a dna test this year

The Cussiah /Rosina issue has left everyone researching the family wondering for years. Maybe her mother decided she was a Rosina and not a Cussiah, post registration of her birth, or maybe Cussiah was a baptismal name, being a religious name. One will never know.
Incidentally, where do you live if you don't mind me asking. I'm in Elderslie NSW.

A very unusual name “Cussiah”compared to all the other children’s names. I’m wondering if there is a Welsh family tree that has been set up and any more details on name change?

I forgot, John Grenfell Pascoe is the spouse of Eva May Allsopp (1882-1956) on whose birth certificate states: Mother Rosena Mary Allsopp. No father shown.
Eva was born 3 years before Rosina married Frank Flint.
John Pascoe died in 1919 and Eva later married Harold Mason in 1928.
