Hi Dennis
I'm in Yorkshire, England. I have a copy of Effie's birth certificate in 1920, she was born in the house my Grandad also lived in, he was a teenager at the time. You're correct, from my own research I know the Marlows emigrated to New Zealand first then moved to New South Wales around 1923. I'll go on my laptop in the morning and send you over what I have. Where do you fit into the family?
Regards
David

Hi Dennis
I did a similar study on one of my family names (Manterfield) so I feel your pain!
Effie Joan Marlow was born on 14 January 1920 at her Grandmother Hill's home, 12, Wood Square, Farsley, which was also my childhood village near Leeds in Yorkshire. I have attached her birth certificate.
Her parents were Herbert Norman Marlow (b.1889) and Sarah Alice, nee Hill, (1891-1977). They already had an older daughter, Annie Marlow (b.1915).
When Effie was 11 months old the family emigrated to Auckland, NZ on the Otarama. Sarah's sister Ada Hill followed them out in 1922. An electoral roll on Ancestry from 1922 shows Herbert & Sarah living in the Auckland suburb of Avondale. They must have moved to Australia between 1922 and 1924 as a third child, Ernest Marlow, was born in Ashfield, Sydney in 1924. Further electoral rolls on Ancestry show that by 1930 they had moved to the Sydney suburb of Girraween.
On 1st January 1939 Effie married Douglas Walter Allsopp, a Projectionist, in Marrickville, Sydney. The Allsopps had emigrated to Australia from England in 1927. Their marriage certificate is attached. In 1943 another electoral roll shows Effie Allsopp living in Petersham next door to her in-laws Walter & Miriam Allsopp. Douglas is not there, perhaps he was serving in the war? By 1946 the roll shows Douglas there with his parents, but no Effie.
The couple must have split up as Douglas married again in 1947 to Elizabeth Palmer Marshall. That's where my trail runs dry for Effie, she was only in her 20s so may have remarried. Douglas and Elizabeth are later (1980) found living in Patonga with Robert Marshall Allsopp and Llewelyn Joy Allsopp, Robert would appear to be their son, Llewelyn is either a daughter or Robert's wife. Douglas is always listed as a projectionist across the years. He died on 23rd August 2002.
I'll take another look at records to see if I can find a 2nd marriage for Effie.
Best wishes
David
PS - I've looked again at NSW records and Effie remarried in 1952 to Henry Charles Hunter in Marrickville. I can't see a death record for Effie as NSW records are only searchable up to 1995 when she would have been 75.

Hi David
Anything that you would like to send me would be most appreciated. I don't have a connection with the family but I am undertaking a one name study on the Allsop surname and all variants of the name, and consequently I hoover up and research everything Allsopp. It's quite a task.
Regards
Dennis

Would you have any knowledge on when Effie Marlow moved to Australia as I cannot find anything in the immigration or incoming passenger lists.
