I will send you the list later as I need to go out shortly but am I correct i that your Mom was born in 1946 (according to the 1950 Census) and that she married Alvin Monroe on 14 February 1945 in Elko, Nevada. I suspect at this stage that our mystery man may be Harold Verran Allsopp AKA Harold Jackson, who left Australia around 1917 at age 19 years and served in the US military sometime after that (I have a photo of him in uniform that he send to his sister). Nothing else is known of him by the family but when I send you the list of names I should be able to triangulate the line. ---------------------- Mom was born December 9 1945. My mom’s mom was Evelyn Helerbant who married my grandpa Alvin Monroe and it was on Valentine’s Day. All my mom was told is that her dad.. Alvin was in the military before, he said he was born in 1900 and we know nothing else. I believe that Harold was a steward on the SS Ventura which ran mail between Sydney and San Francisco near until 1930 and entered the US sometime in the 1920's. I have applied to our State Records office to find if they have any crew lists for the SS Ventura. They have a log of its arrival in Sydney. This may give a starting point for the journey. I always wondered and worried about that ol man….when we put him in a rest home down from our house it broke my heart but he was smoking and wandering and we worried he would escape out the front door and get in the road.. he begged me all the time to bring him home but just couldn’t do it. He was a different man and never met anyone like him…He was full of it and you just couldn’t figure out if it was true or not but it never pertained to anything you have mentioned; it’s like he didn’t want to touch on anything that happened in that part of the world.. nothing on his parents, brothers and sisters, nothing.. he did mention the friend he had in the bunker in The outlies of France that was shot in the head next to him, then an explosion went off and his helmet was lodged on his head but he had blacked out waking up in a medical hospital with bandages wrapped around his eyes.. he was pulling them Off when a heavy set nurse come screaming at him, jumped on the bed, sat on his face so the lights wouldn’t blind him…but who knows. On his right ear around the edge he said it was shot off and had a dent in the back of his calf where he was shot… but who knows! He was a small man with lots of hair and sat at the table reading the Bible all the time…so give me a price for postage and let me buy those books..
